How Ayurveda is will help you take charge of your own body and health!

What is Ayurveda???

To understand Ayurveda, we must start with its origins. Ayurveda, which translates to "the knowledge of life," has its roots in ancient India. The earliest records of Ayurveda are found in the Vedas, ancient Sanskrit texts dating back over 5,000 years. It is considered one of the oldest systems of medicine in the world.

The term "Veda" means knowledge. The Vedas comprise four main texts that explore existence and the nature of the Divine. Over time, additional classical texts emerged, detailing the principles of Ayurvedic medicine, including treatments for ailments, internal medicines, and Ayurvedic surgery.

You might be familiar with yoga, a practice often linked with Ayurveda. In fact, Ayurveda is the foundation upon which yoga was built. Yoga aims to connect our physical and spiritual selves and is one of the six systems of Vedic philosophy.

Ayurveda is both a preventative and curative system of medicine. It integrates health with daily self-care, spiritual and emotional practices, diet, and lifestyle to achieve optimal well-being.

To simplify: Ayurveda is based on elemental theory. This means that every aspect of the universe—including our bodies, emotions, and thoughts—is correlated to the elements: fire, water, air, and ether. Achieving balance among these elements within our bodies and in harmony with our environment is key to "perfect" health.

The beauty of Ayurveda lies in its practicality; it’s designed to be practiced at home. It empowers individuals to understand their own bodies, assess symptoms, and use the principles of elemental balance to restore health.

Today, Ayurveda continues to be practiced alongside allopathic medicine in hospitals throughout India and is gaining recognition worldwide, with clinics and hospitals in countries like Germany, the United States, Mexico, Greece, and Italy.

Knowledge is power - knowing our own bodies and symptoms is power. Taking our own health in our own hands, is power. To me, Ayurveda and the elements are the key!
